BJP Ally NCP Fields Yusuf TP From Lakshadweep Constituency

The Ajit Pawar-led NCP, a BJP ally has fielded Yusuf TP as its candidate from Lakshadweep Lok Sabha seat. Yusuf TP is a native of Kadamath island and a known native madrassa teacher.

The 49-year-old, BJP candidate is the founding leader and activist of Jamiat Shubanusunniyya, a Sunni organisation. Yusuf TP is pitted against the sitting NCP Lok sabha member PP Mohammed Faizal and Congress’ Hamadullah Sayeed for the parliamentary elections.

Announcing the candidate’s name, chief national spokesperson Brijmohan Srivastava said in his press note that the candidate’s name is forwarded to the National Parliamentary committee for approval. National General Secretary and in-charge of Lakshadweep Muhammed Kutti said that Yusuf T P is a very respected name as a Muslim scholar in Lakshadweep.

Yusuf hails from a family who are known being social workers and he also has deep penetration in the Muslim society as an Imam of the mosque. Brijmohan also added that being a constituent party of NDA, the Lok Sabha seat of Lakshadweep has come in the share of the Nationalist Congress party as the party has won in 2019 elections.

Ajit Pawar said in a statement, “Yusuf T.P. The selection reflects his distinguished reputation as a Muslim intellectual and community leader in Lakshadweep. We have confidence in his ability to effectively represent the aspirations of the people”.

Lakshadweep will vote on April 19, the first phase of the seven-phase polls.
