The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to play safe in Gwalior constituency. The party has given ticket to Bharat Singh Kushwaha, the two term MLA of Gwalior Rural Assembly constituency. The sitting MLA of Gwalior won the seat in 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly election by defeating Ram Sevak Singh of Congress over a margin of 11,938 votes. He also serves as Minister of State in the Ministry of Horticulture and Food Processing (Independent charge) of Madhya Pradesh.

Bharat Singh Kushwaha is a known name in Gwalior. In 2018, BJP pitted Kushwaha once more against Congress’ Madan Kushwah, and retain the seat. It was a tight battle between Congress, BSP, and BJP. A large crowd gathered around the office to welcome him and two groups among the crowd started arguing over welcoming and honouring Kushwaha. The dispute soon escalated into a fight. According to Free Press Journal, a round of gun shot took place resulting in wounding one member, and the accused was arrested by the police.
