‘BJP Not Invincible But Congress Lost Their Chance’: Prashant Kishor

Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, poll strategist Prashant Kishore has predicted that the BJP would add more seats from the east and south parts of India. He while speaking to the editors of the PTI also added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the saffron party are not invincible but the grand old party has lost its chance. The opposition has three realistic and distinct chances to win but loses those ‘because of laziness and misplaced strategies’, he said.

“If you keep dropping catches, the batter will score a century, especially if he is a good batter,” Kishore added.

The political analyst has also predicted the saffron party is unlikely to surpass 370 seats in the 540-member Lok Sabha.

“They (BJP) will either be first or second party in Telangana which is a big thing. They will be number one in Odisha for sure. You would be surprised as, in all likelihood, to my mind, the BJP is going to be the number one party in West Bengal,” he said. He also said that BJP’s vote share is expected to hit double-digit percentage.

In Andhra Pradesh, where assembly polls are slated to be held with the Lok Sabha polls, Kishore said that the chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will find it “very difficult” to come back. Instead of being a fulfiller of people’s aspirations, Reddy like former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has gone into a “provider” mode for his constituents, Kishore added.

He said that the BJP will hold on to its ground in the Hindi heartland and west, they would only feel the heat if the Congress could ensure that it loses at least 100 seats in these regions. Kishore said that however, this is not going to happen.

The political analyst also asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to take a break and step aside if the grand old party does not get the desired results in the upcoming polls. Prashant Kishore also added that Rahul Gandhi has been unsuccessful in running the Congress for the past 10 years but is unwilling to step aside and let anyone else take the party reins.
