BJP State Chief Annamalai Is trailing In Coimbatore As DMK Making Lead

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Ganapathy P Rajkumar is leading in ‘The Manchester of South India’ Coimbatore Constituency while the BJP candidate Annamalai is trailing behind. Annamalai is the President of the party’s state unit. Ganapathy Rajkumar have polled over 42,798 with 11,909 votes in the constituency. Since initial stage of counting he have managed to secure a dominance. Annamalai was behind with around 30,889 votes.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidate Singai G. Ramachandran is in third place with about 19,457  votes. It must be noted here that this seat has an incumbent Communist MP and is a party bastion.

Ganapathi Rajakumar, the DMK-INDIA alliance candidate in the election is a former mayor and a PhD candidate. He joined the AIADMK in 1989 and was elected as a councillor in the Coimbatore City Corporation in 2001. In the 2014 mayoral elections of Coimbatore, Rajkumar contested as the AIADMK candidate and won with a share of 420,104 votes after the BJP candidate came second with a share of 128,761 votes where neither the DMK nor the INC participated. Rajkumar was subsequently elected the mayor of Coimbatore,and served from 2014 to 2016.

Rajkumar joined the DMK on 21 December 2020 in the presence of M. K. Stalin as he felt he was sidelined by the leaders of the AIADMK. He is presently the DMK’s Presidium Chairman of Coimbatore district

Coimbatore, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu is an eye-catching constituency . The Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency showcases a distinctive political landscape with less dwelling on the traditional bipolar Dravidian political divide. Over the course of 19 elections, left-wing parties, including the CPI(M), have secured victory eight times, while the Congress has won six times.

In 2019, CPI(M) candidate Natarajan P was elected as MP, highlighting the left-wing”s ongoing influence in the region. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Natarajan. P.R from CPIM won the seat with a margin of 179,143 votes. Natarajan P.R was polled 571,150 votes with a vote share of 46.00 per cent and defeated Radhakrishnan. C.P from BJP who got 3,92,007 votes (31.34 per cent).
