The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bhartruhari Mahtab succeeded to secure Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency. BJP veteran has a winning margin of 57,077 votes, and secured a total of 5,31,601 votes in the silver city of the Odisha. Santrupt Misra from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is in the second place, having secured 4,74,524 votes. Congress candidate Suresh Mohapatra is on the third position with 83,815 votes.
67 old Mahtab, a full-time politician and the son of former Odisha chief minister Harekrushna Mahtab, has been successfully securing the Cuttack Lok Sabha seat since 1998. Initially a member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), he made a significant move by resigning from the BJD to join the BJP in March 2024. His political journey began with his election to the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998 from the Cuttack constituency in Odisha. Subsequently, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019 from the same constituency.
In recognition of his exceptional parliamentary contributions, he was honored with the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award in 2017.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Bhartruhari Mahtab from BJD won the seat with a margin of 121,201 votes. Bhartruhari Mahtab was polled 524,592 votes with a vote share of 49.00 % and defeated Prakash Mishra from BJP who got 403,391 votes (38.04 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, he won the seat and was polled 526,085 votes with a vote share of 53.65%. Bhartruhari Mahatab defeated Aparajita Mohanty by a margin of 306,762 votes.
