BJP's Lumbaram Chaudhary Wins From Jalore

BJP candidate Lumbaram Chaudhary emerged successful in the Jalore Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan. The constituency has been held as the stronghold of BJP as they continue to maintain their winning streak from the last four elections.

The BJP brought Lumbaram Chaudhary, a farmer and BJP worker from the Sirohi district to secure victory in Jalore. He replaced the incumbent MP Devaji Patel.  The anti-incumbency sentiment had denied the ticket to Devaji Patel, which led to the surprise candidacy of Lumbaram. Lumbaram had held many positions within the party in the region.

Lumbaram bagged a total number of 796,783 votes, capturing 55.05 percent of the total votes polled in the constituency. He also managed to secure a majority of 201,543 votes in the constituency.

Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the Congress candidate has only managed to garner 5,95,240 votes, securing just 41.13 percent of the votes. Vaibhav had significant support from his father in the constituency. But, neither his father’s support nor discord stirred by communal statements in the speeches of PM Narendra Modi in Rajasthan saved him in avoiding a huge defeat in the constituency.

Jalore Lok Sabha constituency consists of eight assembly segments, with four being ruled by the BJP, three by the Congress, and one by an independent.

Devaji Patel had experienced a decrease in the majority in the last election. In 2014, he secured a majority of 381,145 votes, while in 2019 he only secured 261,110 votes. Despite the high figures, the forecast of the BJP in the constituency helped the party to avoid defeat.
