Ahead of the Lok Sabha 2024 election, yet another blow has struck on the grand old party. The lone Congress MP in Jharkhand, Geeta Koda, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday in Ranchi. Geeta Koda is the wife of former chief minister Madhu Koda.
The Singhbhum MP joined the saffron party in the presence of Babulal Marandi at its state headquarters. After her switch, she alleged that Congress had put the country in trouble by indulging in appeasement politics. She further added that the party claims to take everyone along but instead, it takes only its family along, reports TOI.
Stating her reason for quitting from Congress, she said, “There is no point in staying in a party that is least concerned about people. I have decided to serve people in future with the BJP. I would contribute in whatever capacity the party requires me to. Will contribute in fulfilling the dream of Prime Minister Modi to make India Viksit Bharat”.
Geeta Koda’s move has become a major setback to the party as she had won one one-seat in the tribal-dominated state in the 2019 general elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Koda won by defeating her rival Laxman Giluwa of the BJP with a margin of 72,000 votes. She successfully acquired 49 percent of the vote while Giluwa received nearly 41 percent of the votes.
BJP Jharkhand chief Babulal Marandi termed the INDIA bloc as a group an ‘amalgamation’ of “corrupt people”. He further said that in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election, they are aiming to win the two seats that they lost in the previous election along with the other 12 seats. Commenting on the INDIA bloc, the BJP leader said that the INDIA alliance will not be in existence in the future as Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal have clarified that they will not share seats with Congress in their ruling states. And thus, INDIA will disappear from existence, reports Hindustan Times.
