The Congress candidate Ujjwal Raman Singh won the Allahabad Constituency with around 456920 votes. The Congress candidate has secured a decisive lead of 58020 votes against the BJP. BJP’s Neeraj Tripathi BJP is trailing behind with a total of 398900 votes. Notably, the last time the grand old party had won the seat was in 1984.
The BJP candidate Neeeraj Tripathi is the son of veteran leader and former West Bengal governor Kesari Nath Tripathi. He served as additional advocate general for the Uttar Pradesh government.
Congress candidate Ujjwal Raman Singh is the former Uttar Pradesh minister and senior SP leader. He left SP and joined Congress. All India Congress Committee general secretary (UP in-charge) Avinash Pande inducted Singh into the Congress fold. Ujjwal Raman Singh is the son of veteran SP leader and two term Allahabad Lok Sabha MP Rewati Raman Singh.
Rewati Raman Singh was the MP from Allahabad in 2004 and 2009. Earlier, BJP heavyweight Murali Manohar Joshi had contested and elected as the MP here. BSP placed Ramesh Kumar Patel.
Allahabad witnessed a fierce battle between two stalwarts with a political lineage.
In 2014, Shyama Charan Gupta was elected by receiving 313772 votes defeating the veteran SP leader Rewati Raman Singh who received 251763 votes. BSP and Congress pushed down to third and fourth respectively. In 2019, BJP fielded Rita Bahuguna Joshi who emerged victorious by garnering 494454 votes against Rajendra Singh Patel, the SP candidate. She won with a margin of183876 votes.
