Congress candidate Dinesh Yadav”s election campaigns recently hit headlines for their unique approach. As he meets the public, along with votes, he asks for notes (rupees) as well. Though we have come across candidates who give money to buy people”s votes, the situation is different in Madhya Pradesh”s Jabalpur.

While approaching the prospective voters, Dinesh Yadav says that since the BJP has seized all accounts of the Congress party, he needs people”s monetary support to contest the election as well. Thus, in the door-to-door campaign, he is seeking votes and a small sum between Rs. 10 and Rs. 100. The campaign is titled “One Vote, One Note Campaign.”

Dinesh Yadav is a middle-class businessman, but for a long time he has been associating with urban and municipal body politics. He has served as a councilor in Jabalpur Municipal Corporation many times and has been a councilor in the urban civic body. Besides, he once contested unsuccessfully in the mayoral elections as well.

Therefore, Dinesh Yadav is a known face in the urban regions, and with this unique election campaign, he is introducing himself in the rural areas as well. During the campaigns, he states that education, industrial development, and health are his major focus for the constituency.

Jabalpur, for a long time, has been held by veteran politicians. Though it was once a stronghold of Congress, since 1996, the BJP secured victory in the constituency. Incumbent BJP MP Rakesh Singh has been serving Jabalpur for the past 20 years, but he is not contesting elections this time. Ashish Dubey is the BJP”s pick for the constituency. Though Dinesh Yadav and Ashish Dubey are relatively new faces in mainstream electoral politics, both holds a good history on the organisational front with respect to their parties.
