Shrirang Chandu Barne from the Maval constituency is fielded as the Shiv Sena (Shinde) candidate. The senior Shiv Sena leader of Pune’s Maval constituency has updated his educational qualification from “10th fail” to “SSLC pass” in his recent affidavit filed for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Barne was honored with the Sansad Ratna award five times and Maha Sansad Ratna. He has earlier expressed his long-standing regret over the discrepancy in his educational credentials. The 60-year-old is known for his contribution to Pune’s political landscape. His journey in politics began in 1997 when he followed the path of his elder brother to become a corporator in Pimpri Chinchwad. After serving in the Cooperation for 15 years, Barne transitioned to the national level, winning the Lok Sabha seat from Maval in 2014 and then again in 2019.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Barne defeated the sitting MLA Laxman Pandurang Jagtap who contested from the Peasants and Workers Party of India by 1,57,394 votes. In the 2019 election, he defeated Parth Ajith Pawar who contested from Nationalist Congress Party by 2,15,913 votes.

Barne was awarded with Sansad Ratna Award in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2020, he was honoured with Sansad Maha Ratna Award for sustained qualitative performance in the 16th Lok Sabha. This award is presented once in five years.

As for the Maval constituency, despite the formidable claim from the BJP, NCP and Congress in a grand coalition, the Maval seat has consistently remained with Shiv Sena within the grand alliance.
