Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab has a history of not giving more than two consecutive chances to any party or candidate. In the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Punjabs’ Sangrur constituency underwent a five-cornered contest. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged as the winner, securing a significant victory with almost the majority of the votes.
His main contenders included Sukhpal Singh Khaira from the Congress, Simranjit Singh Mann from SAD (Amritsar), Arvind Khanna from the BJP, and Iqbal Singh Jhundan from SAD (Badal). Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer secured 3,64085 votes winning a margin of 1,72560 against the competitors.
Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer is a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a two-time MLA from the Barnala constituency. As a Cabinet Minister in the Punjab Government, he holds five crucial portfolios, including Higher Education & Languages, Governance Reforms, Sports & Youth Services, Science Technology & Environment, and Printing & Stationery. Meet Hayer first won the Legislative Assembly elections in 2017 and secured a significant victory again in 2022, garnering almost 50% of the votes.
A journey through the places, Sunam and Dirba towards Sangrur, Barnala, Dhuri, and Malerkotla highlighted the intense competition of AAP as Meet Hayer effortlessly won against BJP, Congress and SAD candidates.
