Hazarika Feilded To Determine Congress's Comeback In Lakhimpur After A Decade

Uday Shankar Hazarika represents the Congress party in the Lakhimpur constituency of the Lok Sabha election 2024. In this election, he is up against Pradhan Baruah of BJP.

Amidst the strong candidates and the three-time former MP Ranee Narah,  Uday Shankar Hazarika was picked by the congress for the Lakhimpur constituency, who made his entry into the party a few months back.

Being associated with the saffron party for a long time, his political journey finds a new path as he quit the BJP and joined the Congress party a few months ago. His previous ties with the saffron party marked his defeats as he contested unsuccessfully from Lakhimpur on the BJP ticket three times in the years 1998,1999,2004.

This election will mark his fourth attempt to win the Lakhimpur constituency. This time he is contesting against Pradhan Baruah, who is looking for Hattrick with his 2 consecutive wins in the constituency from the elections 2016 and 2019.

In the 2019 elections, Pradan Baruah won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Anil Borgohain by a margin of 3,50,551 votes. Prior to this, when a by-election was conducted in 2016, Pradan Baruah secured victory. BJP is looking for hattrick in the upcoming election. In 2019, the Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency had a total of 1708013 electors, and the total number of valid votes was 1283589.
