Following the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi’s complaint to the Election Commission (EC) regarding the death threat he allegedly received, the Hyderabad BJP candidate Madhavi Latha today took a jab at the city”s MP. Owaisi had earlier demanded the Election Commission monitor the death threat he had allegedly received after meeting with the family members of the late Mukhtar Ansari.
Reacting to Owaisi”s allegations, the Hyderabad BJP candidate said, “Who is giving him (Asaduddin Owaisi) death threats?…Look at the level of his friendships. He is friends with people from ISIS, the kings” group…He says that he has a stronghold here and then says that he is receiving death threats,” Latha was heard saying to the news agency ANI

The AIMIM chief on Friday alleged that he got threatening social media posts after he met with the relatives of a deceased four-time MLA, Mukhtar Ansari. The death of the gangster-turned-politician has caused controversy after the family alleged that Ansari was slowly poisoned to death in his jail term.
On March 28, after shifting from Jail, Mukhtar Ansari died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda. Owaisi had gone to the house of the late politician to pay tribute and give condolence to the family. A judicial investigation has been ordered last week after the family”s allegation that the former MLA was subjected to “slowly poisoning” at jail.
After receiving the alleged death threat, the Hyderabad MP stated that the atmosphere created in the country is giving them strength to say such things. “We will live as long as it is destined and no one is here to live forever. We appeal to ECI to monitor the situation,” Owaisi was heard saying in a video shared by the news agency ANI.
Notably, the BJP’s Madhavi Latha has challenged the Hyderabad MP in the upcoming general elections. The seat has been represented by Asaduddin Owaisi since 2004 and before that, his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi had represented Hyderabad for six consecutive terms between 1984 and 2004. The constituency will go to polls on May 13.
