Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Shatrughan Sinha, The Veteran Actor Leading By Over 40,000 Votes In Asansol

Trinamool Congress candidate Shatrughan Sinha has secured victory against BJP candidate S. S. Ahluwalia by securing a total of 59564 voting Margin. The election vote counting is still underway and the election commission is continuously updating the voting trends. The final result will be updated once the counting is completed officially.

Shatrughan Sinha, the veteran actor and former MP from Asansol joined TMC in 2022. Earlier, the famous Bollywood actor was elected to the lower house in 2009 and 2014 from Patna Sahib.

In the past, the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency was a CPM bastion before the BJP took over the seat in 2014 till 2022. In 2022, Trinamool Congress candidate Shatrughan Sinha secured the seat in the by-elections with a whopping 56.62% votes. While BJP candidate, Agnimitra Paul secured 30.46% votes.

In the 2019, Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Babul Supriyo Baral secured 51.16% votes and AITC party representative Moon Moon Sen got 35.19% votes. Whereas the CPI(M) candidate Gouranga Chattopadhyay won only 7.08% votes.

In 2014, Babul Supriyo, fought on a BJP ticket to secure the Asansol Lok Sabha seat with 36.75% votes and Trinamool Congress candidate Dola Sen got 30.58% votes. CPI (M) candidate secured 22.39 percent votes.

A significant drop in the CPI (M) vote share was observed in Asansol and similarly, a drop in the BJP vote share was observed from the past two parliamentary elections. There was a high chance that the TMC candidate would win the Asansol Lok Sabha Seat in the election of 2024.

Asansol is a general category parliament seat with a significant proportion of SC and Muslim voters with a population of 27.41 percent and 20.73 percent respectively. BJP fielded S.S. Ahluwalia and CPI (M) fielded Jahanara Khan against Sinha in the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.
