As per the 2024 Lok Sabha election result in the Maharajganj constituency, Pankaj Chaudhary of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the seat with a winning margin of 35,451 votes. He gained a total of 5,91,310 votes, where Congress’ Virendra Chaudhary came second with a total margin of 5,55,859 votes.

Pankaj Chaudhary secured his first victory in the 10th Lok Sabha elections in 1991. He came winner in 1996 and in 1998 elections as well. However, he faced defeat in the 1999 General elections against Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Singh. But he emerged victorious in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. Despite this, he suffered a setback in 2009, losing to the Congress candidate Harsh Vardhan from Maharajganj constituency. Nevertheless, he made a comeback in 2014, winning from the same constituency and currently serves as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha. His political career reached a new height when he was appointed as the Union Minister of State (Finance) in the Second Modi ministry following a Cabinet reshuffle.

Virendra Chaudhary is a MLA of congress from Uttar Pradesh. In 2019 BJP candidate Pankaj Choudhary won by securing a total of 7,26,349 votes. SP’s Akhilesh stood second with garnering 3,85,925 votes.
