The village girl who was not able to get a square meal and met with scores of financial and social hardships during her life got a Lok Sabha ticket from TMC from Arambagh, West Bengal. As per a The Statesman report Mitali Bag, who felt the pain of economic hurdles at a personal level is determined to empower women and represent the marginalized in Delhi, if she gets elected for the 18th Lok Sabha.
Having a master’s degree in history along with a B.Ed., she reflected exemplary commitment towards her work. She taught in a modest school where she earned 150 bucks only at the end of the month. She had also worked as an Anganwadi worker. Her courage and honesty inspired other girls in her surroundings and people expressed happiness over her nomination.
Beating all the odds to get the TMC ticket in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Mitali Bag has garnered praise on social media. In one of the videos uploaded on X, a user said that people like her are the real strength of the TMC party. The same video shows her residence reflecting her humble background and iron will to defy hardships.

Mitali Bag got a TMC ticket in 2011 to contest the gram panchayat elections and went to the panchayat samiti in 2018. She won the Zila Parishad elections in 2023. Bag is currently a member of Hooghly Zilla Parishad and president of Goghat 2 Block Mahila Trinamool.
In 2019, the ruling party nominated Aparupa Poddar from Arambagh who defeated the BJP candidate by a slight margin of .08 percent. Reportedly, the BJP has increased its strength in the constituency hence Mitali Bag got the ticket this year. In 2014, the BJP got only 11.63 percent votes while in the 20119 general elections, BJP votes crossed 44%.
As per the local media sources, the Arambagh Lok Sabha candidate started her political campaign and was seen plowing potato crops in the field with the farmers.
6 assembly segments of the Arambagh constituency lie in the Hooghly district and one in Paschim Medinipur district. The seat became reserved for scheduled castes in 2009. In 4 of the 7 assembly seats, BJP has its MLAs while on 3 seats TMC has its representatives.
The constituency has a 73.2 percent literacy rate. The Muslim, SC, and ST population is 15.3 percent, 23.65 percent, and 5.73 percent respectively. The voting will take place on May 20 in the constituency.
