“Neither Shocked Nor Surprised By Your Language…”: Kharge Writes To PM Modi

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his time to explain to him the grand old party’s ‘Nyay Patra’. This came over the latter’s remark on the party’s manifesto and the claim that if the party is voted to power, it would distribute the country’s wealth to “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”.

Defending the Congress manifesto, Kharge said that the Nyay Patra is aimed at providing justice to youngsters, women, farmers, labourers, and marginalised people across the castes and communities. He addressing the Prime minister wrote that he is being misinformed by his advisers about the things that are mentioned in the party’s manifesto.

The Congress chief slamming the PM Modi’s remark said, “when all this is over, people will remember that the PM of the country used such vulgar language for fear of losing an election.”

“It has become your habit to seize on a few words taken out of context, create communal divide,” the Congress chief said.

And by referring to his speech, Kharge further said that he is neither shocked nor surprised by the language used by the prime minister. Kharge was responding to the controversial comment made by Modi during the election rally in Rajasthan

“It was expected that you and other leaders from your party would start speaking in this manner after you saw the dismal performance of the BJP in the first phase of the elections,” Kharge said.

Continuing the attack on Modi, Kharge said that ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’ will only work for the corporates for whom the government has reduced the taxes. The poor pay GST even on food and salt and the rich corporate claim GST refunds. That is why, when we talk of inequality between the rich and the poor, you are purposely equating it with Hindu and Muslim,” he added.

Modi on Sunday during the election rally alleged that the Congress manifesto states that the party will take stock of the gold mothers and mothers and daughters have, and will distribute that wealth to “those with more children” and “infiltrators”.
