In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bollywood icon Zeenat Aman opened up about the ‘extraordinary woman’ who shaped her life – her mother. Reflecting on cherished memories, Aman, a luminous star of Indian cinema who carved her path with grace and talent, reminisced about her mother”s unwavering support and boundless love.
“Every Sunday, a dedicated well-wisher sends me old photographs from their archive. Zeenat Aman memorabilia if you please,” Aman shares, as the actress who ventured into modeling before captivating Bollywood delves into nostalgic recollections of her mother, a woman ahead of her time.
Describing her mother as “gracious, beautiful, and whip-smart,” Aman paints a portrait of resilience and strength. After her parents” separation in the 1950s, her mother embarked on a journey of self-discovery, becoming a working woman and a pillar of support for Aman, who made her film debut with “Hulchul” in 1971 but soared to stardom with “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” (1971), portraying the free-spirited Janice.
“She negotiated my contracts, invested my earnings, packed my tiffins, ran my lines, inspired my style, and bolstered my confidence to the nth degree,” Aman fondly recalls, highlighting her mother”s dedication and sacrifice.
Despite occasional disagreements, Aman”s bond with her mother remained unbreakable. “Mummy never thought any man was worthy of me (she was onto something there),” Aman chuckles, reminiscing about their shared moments of solace and understanding.
Aman”s decision to elope with Mazhar Khan, whom she married 1985, may have initially caused heartache, but the birth of her first son brought renewed joy and connection. “It’s true that I broke her heart a little when I eloped, but it mended with the birth of my first son, who shares a birthday with her,” Aman, who is all set to come back to the screen with Faraz Arif Ansari directorial Bun Tikki, a Manish Malhotra production, reflects, revealing the enduring bond between mother and daughter.
In her post, Aman honors her mother”s legacy, cherishing precious memories captured in old photographs. “When ma died in 1995, I felt as though a veil of protection was snatched off my shoulders. These pictures are all the more precious to me now that I can only return to her safe harbor in my memories,” Aman shares, offering a glimpse into the profound influence of her mother”s love and guidance.

On his Instagram page, Manish Malhotra shared the details of the movie and star cast that included Zeenat Aman, Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol. He shared his excitement and happiness in seeing two of his favourite stars coming together under one roof. He said both were “so different from each other and both have memorable movies and cinema moments that we all love”.
The movie, according to reports, is now in post-production stage.
