“Raghav Chadha Could Lose Eyesight”: Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj On MP’s Absence

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday gave an update regarding the absence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha from the election campaign. The AAP leader said that he is in the UK for an eye surgery.

While speaking about his absence, Bharadwaj said his condition was serious and added that there was a possibility of losing his eyesight. The Delhi minister also added that he would join them in the election campaigning once he return back to India.

Chadha has been in London, United Kingdom for a major eye surgery for almost two months. His visit to the UK earlier stirred controversy when he met the British Labour MP Preet K Gill, known for his advocacy of Khalistan separatism and anti-India sentiment on social media.

The opposition parties have enquired about the absence of AAP leaders, including Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha and Swati Maliwal who were reportedly abroad amid Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and election campaigning. Last month BJP claimed very few AAP leaders are standing by the chief minister during his jail term.

BJP IT Cell head, Amit Malviya taking on to X said, “After Arvind Kejriwal’s remand was extended, the support for him within his own party seems to be dwindling. Except Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, who fancy themselves as CM of Delhi if Kejriwal continues to be in jail, none of his other acolytes seem to be here when he needs them the most.”

Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar also questioned the “intriguing absence” of Chadha.

“In this politically surcharged atmosphere lots of reasons are being attributed to the intriguing absence of Raghav Chadha at his juncture,” Jhankar tweeted.
