'Police Tried To Protect Accused, Should Be Suspended': Sanjay Raut In Pune Porch Accident

A day after a court granted bail to the accused driver of a speeding porch that hit a bike, killing two people on the spot, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut accused that the police tried to protect the accused, Vedant Agarwal, the son of Pune-based business tycoon Vishal Agarwal. Vedant, a minor who was driving the Porch, was arrested by the police soon after the incident. It was also alleged that the minor was driving under the influence of alcohol. The collision happened in the Yerwada area, Pune.

However, within hours, a court granted bail to the accused person on trivial conditions such as asking to write an essay, undergoing counseling, and working with traffic police for 15 days.

While commenting on the incident, Sanjay Raut further demanded the suspension of the police commissioner. “A young couple was killed, and the accused was granted bail within 2 hours. In the video, it can be seen that he was drunk, but his medical report was negative. Who is helping the accused? Who is this police commissioner? He should be removed or the people of Pune will come on the streets,” the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP told the news agency ANI.

The accident claimed the lives of two young graduates, both 24- years -old. The victims, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, were working as software engineers. The police had invoked Section 304A, causing death by negligence or a rash act in the incident.

The locals has demanded action against the 17-year-old minor”s parents. They alleged that the father knew his son did not possess a driving license and was drunk, but he still provided the vehicle. The father was later booked for permitting his child to consume alcohol and providing the car despite knowing he had no license. Notably, the Porch, which was bought in March, did not have a vehicle registration plate at the time of the accident.

However, the family of the accused has expressed their anger over the bail granted to Vedant Agarwal and demanded that the bail be cancelled. The police have said that they are moving the upper court against the bail order and demanding that the accused be considered an adult.
