The JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, who has been mired in the sexual harassment case in Karnataka, is trailing in his sitting seat. It seems that the allegations of sexual harassment have prevented him from gaining lead from his sitting seat.
JD(S) has lost its single seat, which it has been retaining for the past 25 years. Congress candidate Shreyas Patel has defeated JD(S) candidate Prajwal Revanna.
Before Revanna was elected MP in 2019, the constituency was represented by former PM H D Deve Gowda
Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda and has been representing the seat since 2019. In his debut, he emerged victorious by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.
JD(S), the saffron party’s ally, has been allotted three seat in seat-sharing with the BJP. Notably, Hassan is the lone seat that the JDS won during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
This time, the 33-year-old grandson of the former Prime Minister was absconding since his video of sexually abusing women emerged. The MP had returned to India last week and surrendered before the Special Investigation Team set up by the state government.
The JD(S)’s legacy had diminished over the years, and it was analysed that the 2024 general elections would be an existential fight for the party.
