Securing a second term, BJP candidate Anil Firoziya won the Ujjain Lok Sabha seat with an impressive 8,36,104 votes, defeating his nearest rival and Congress candidate Mahesh Parmar who won 4,60,244. Firoziya’s victory comes with securing a significant margin of 3,75,860 votes.

Anil Firoziya currently serves as the Member of Parliament for the constituency. Ujjain constituency has long been a stronghold for the BJP, with its roots tracing back to the aftermath of the India-China war in 1962. Over the years, stalwarts like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani frequented the region, solidifying BJP’s presence.

In 2019, Firoziya secured victory for BJP defeating Congress with a significant victory margin of 3,65,637 votes. As a parliamentarian, he undertook several positions in the Lok Sabha, including member of the Committee on Welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, member of the Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution, and member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of External Affairs.

Mahesh Parmar, a 44-year-old Congress leader and MLA from Tarana, has emerged as a prominent figure in Ujjain’s political landscape. Parmar is a two-time MLA from Tarana Assembly segment in Madhya Pradesh. His longstanding tenure as a District Panchayat member, including a presidency stint from 2013 to 2018. He faced defeat in the Ujjain Mayor election by a narrow margin.

Parmer and Firojiya previously faced each other in the 2018 assembly elections where they both fought for the Tarana Assembly seat and the former emerged winner. In the 2023 Assembly elections also he retained Tarana assembly seat for Congress.

The Ujjain Lok Sabha seat consists of Ratlam district and extends to the entire Ujjain district. It is an SC reserved seat. The Ujjain is traditionally considered as a stronghold of the BJP; in 12 out of the past 17 Lok Sabha polls, either the BJP or organisations such as the Janata Party and Bharatiya Jan Sangh secured victory. Besides, Ujjain-Alot Lok Sabha seat is important because it belongs in the home district of chief minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
