The BJP’ candidate Ganesh Singh has clinched his fifth victory in the Lok Sabha constituency of Satna with 4,59,728 votes. Maintaining his stronghold over the seat, Singh defeated Congress’ Siddharth Sukhlal Kushwaha by a margin of 84,949 votes with Kushwaha bagging 3,74,779 votes.
The four-time MP had been elected during the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Lok Sabha election from the same constituency. He won Satna Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 2004, and from there on it was his fortress. It is to note that in 2004, Ganesh with a vote margin of 90,000. But in 2009, he just scraped out of it with a margin of 4,000 against, Sidharth’s father Sukhlal Kushwaha, who was a BSP contestant.
Political commentator Jairam Shukla had predicted that unless people voted for PM Narendra Modi’s cause irrespective of their factor, Ganesh would find it hard as the upper caste including Thakurs, Brahmins, and Vaishya, who constitute the half of the voter population, had turned against Ganesh, who is largely seen as a Kurmi leader.
Congress candidate Siddharth Sukhlal Kushwaha is the son of former MP Sukhlal Kushwaha. Known for defeating long serving politicians, he contested in the assembly election of 2018 from Satna Assembly constituency. He won by defeating three-term MLA Shankarlal Tiwari. Siddharth was made the president of the Other Backward Class (OBC) wing of the grand old party. Political analysts believe that this was done as a bid to reward to Siddharth for not changing his loyalty to the party during its fall in the 2020 political crisis.
