One of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh is Sambhal, comprising five legislative assembly segments, including Kundarki, Bilari, Chandausi (SC reserved), Asmoli, and Sambhal. Apart from the BJP’s Chandausi, all other Vidhan Sabhas are led by the Samajwadi Party (SP). Once represented by SP’s Mulayam Singh Yadav from 1998 to 1999, Sambhal has around 17.5 percent of Scheduled Castes, as per the 2011 census.
BJP candidate Satyapal Singh Saini secured the Sambhal Lok Sabha seat by securing 34 percent, barely passing SP’s Shafiqur Rahman Barq, who got 33 percent of the votes in the 2014 elections. However, Barq emerged victorious in the 2019 elections, securing 55 percent of the votes and defeating BJP candidate Parmeshwar Lal Saini, who got 40 percent of the votes.
After the passing of Barq, the SP has to nominate the next candidate, which might become a problem for the party. Despite Saini’s previous defeat, the saffron party has invested its trust in the politician and his growing support since 2014. According to a Jagran report, the party has chosen Saini as its nominee as it got six percent more votes in 2019 when compared to the 2014 general elections.
The Saini community consists of a significant voter base in the Sambhal, Chandausi, Bilari, Asmoli, and Kundarki assembly constituencies of the Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency. The highest number of individuals from the Saini community reside in the Bilari assembly constituency.
From 2010 to 2016, Saini served as MLC as a candidate from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). In 2022, he stood for elections from the Bilari assembly constituency under the banner of the BJP but faced defeat by a small margin.
A former MLC, Saini is also a real estate and tea businessman. He has no criminal cases registered against him.
