Kamakhya Prasad Tasa represents the BJP party in the Kaliabor constituency of Assam in the Lok Sabha election 2024. In this election, he is up against Roselina Tirkey of Congress.
Kamakhya Prasad Tasa has been associated with the saffron party for a long time. Being a formidable leader with a strong and substantial following base, he was also elected as the state Vice President of BJP in Assam from 2013 to 2017.
He was a member of parliament, from Jorhat of BJP from 2014 to 2019, as he won the election by securing a total of 4,56,420 votes. Through this victory, he defeated the six-time Congress MP and the former Union Minister late Bajoy Krishna Handique with a margin of 1,02,420 votes as Jorhat was the stronghold of Congress.
In 2019, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the state. In July 2023, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa was appointed as the National Secretary of the BJP.
He is credited with BJPs growing influence in various caste groups who have settled in Assam over the state, especially having arrived in the quest for jobs in the state’s tea garden. Kamakhya Prasad Tasa was the prominent face of the tea tribe community in the state. It is to be noted that Assam is the country’s largest tea producer, and his role played a major role in the success of the BJP in the whole North-Eastern part of India.
