The e-commerce platform Amazon launched a new technology on Wednesday called ‘Vision Assisted Package Retrieval’ which would help delivery agents that a spotlight been created within its truck to guide them for each delivery stop along the way. The packages will have a green light shining on them to ease the deliverers’ task of reading labels and wasting time, while cameras and LED projectors on the van’s ceiling instantly read package labels. The company claims that this innovation aims to increase daily deliveries per worker from 100 to more.

According to Amazon, the company plans to equip 1,000 delivery trucks with this technology by early next year. These trucks will be supplied by electric vehicle maker ‘Rivian’ which will enhance delivery efficiency. Amazon is Rivian’s largest shareholder having ordered 100,000 electric delivery vans for deployment by 2030 to complete this project.

According to Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon worldwide stores, faster deliveries mean customers will shop more and will have not to wait for a prolonged period. This technology is expected to boost customer satisfaction and loyalty, as per Amazon.
In addition to this, Amazon is introducing AI-powered product guides to provide customers with more extensive information and recommendations that may enable informed shopping decisions. The company is also setting up smaller warehouses attached to its Whole Foods grocery stores which would allow customers to order items not available in-store and have them delivered at checkout. The company claims that the partnership between Amazon and Rivian has yielded positive results with shares of both companies rising 1% following the announcement.
