In his bail plea, Sharjeel Imam has mentioned his continuous incarceration for more than five years and two months, and his stay in judicial custody throughout this period without being granted bail, even temporarily.

The Imam’s application referred to him as a political prisoner and a student activist, and expressed his wish to contest the elections from his home state, Bihar. Notably, the Bihar elections are scheduled to be held in two phases from October 10 to November 16, 2025.

The plea further noted that Iman is not affiliated with any political party and intends to contest as an independent candidate.

Imam’s plea mentioned the inability of his family to make arrangements for his nomination and campaign, as his younger brother is also attending to their ailing mother and supporting the family.
