Patna, Bihar: A woman in Jamui’s Bihar left her abusive husband to marry a loan recovery agent visited her home for repayment. The couple married on Tuesday afternoon according to traditional Hindu rituals at the Bhutnath Temple near Tripurari Ghat. The ceremony was attended by several people and video of the ceremony went viral on social media.

As per the reports, Pawan Kumar Yadav, loan recovery agent belonging to a finance company regularly visited various villages for loan recovery. Few months before, during one such visit he met Indra Kumari, a resident of Jamui district. She was married to Nakul Sharma over two years. An alcoholic, Nakul allegedly used to physically abuse Indra.

During these troubling times, Indra met Pawan who visited her home to collect a loan repayment. Over the course of time, their acquaintance turned into love. They maintained secrecy in the relationship for five months. But, on February, Indra decided to leave husband and elope with Pawan.

They first took flight and reached West Bengal‘s Asansol, where Indra’s cousin resides and stayed for few days. Then, they returned to Jamui and married at a temple. Though Pawan’s family has accepted the marriage, as per the reports, Indra’s family is opposed to it and has booked an FIR against him. Indira claims that she married Pawan out of her will.

With the FIR, threats from Indra’s family and fearing societal backlash, the couple has sought protection from the authorities. Meanwhile, mixed reactions evoked in social media. While some salutes Indra’s decision as correct, some users criticised it as downfall of tradition and culture.
