Congress Condemns 'Murderous' Attack On Dalit MP In Bihar

New Delhi: The Congress today condemned the ‘murderous’ attack on Manoj Kumar Ram, a Dalit party MP from Bihar. The party asked the Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, to clarify his stand and explain the role of his party, the Janata Dal United (JDU).

Addressing a press conference at the party office today, Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, the Bihar Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Shakeel Ahmad, and former MP Udit Raj alleged that Manoj Ram was attacked by the workers of the BJP and the JDU in Sasaram.

They claimed that Manoj had been seriously injured and was first admitted to AIIMS, Patna, from where he has been referred to AIIMS, New Delhi.

The Congress leaders stated that there was a complete ‘jungle raj’ in Bihar and nobody was feeling safe there. Accusing the state chief minister of a lack of law and order, the Congress leaders said that Nitish Kumar had no control over the administration and the law and order, as he was at the mercy of the BJP.

They pointed out, if an MP is not safe in Bihar, what would be the plight of the common people?

During the press conference, they also alleged that not only was Manoj Ram physically assaulted, but casteist slurs and abuses were also hurled at him. They said that one of his personal security officers was also injured in the attack.

The Congress leaders demanded the immediate arrest of all the culprits and exemplary punishment for them.

Congress MP from Sasaram, Manoj Kumar Ram, was attacked by a group of people in Bihar’s Kaimur district on Thursday. Six others, including his brother, personal assistant, bodyguards, and supporters, were also injured.

While Manoj escaped with head injuries and was rushed to the government sub-divisional hospital in Mohania. He was then sent to Patna for further treatment.

Manoj had gone to St. John International School, run by his brother Mrityunjay Bharti, when the vote counting for the election to the local Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS) was underway at the Kudra block headquarters.

According to reports, an ongoing school-related dispute had triggered the attack. The villagers, however, claim that the situation worsened because the Congress MP’s vehicles blocked the road in front of the school.
