Patna, Bihar: On Tuesday, April 14, JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation as the chief minister of Bihar to the Governor, reaching the Governor’s residence after dissolving his cabinet after a last meeting in Patna.
The resignation of the former chief minister of Bihar marks the end of an era in the state’s politics, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) now set to lead the government with its own Chief Minister for the first time in the State.

The JD(U) leader served as Chief Minister for over two decades, taking oath for a record tenth term on November 20, 2025. In a social media post, Nitish Kumar said his government has worked for the development of all sections of society from the very beginning—whether Hindus, Muslims, upper castes, backward classes, extremely backward classes, Dalits, or Mahadalits.
