Mahesana Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat has elected the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Haribhai Patel. According to the Election Commission data, Haribhai Patel wins the seat with a margin of 3,28,046 votes, securing 6,86,406 votes. Along with the success, Haribhai Patel has marked a record in the vote margin in the electoral history of the seat.

Haribhai Patel was the member of 10th Lok Sabha representing the Porbandar constituency from 1991 to 1996, and later in 14th Lok Sabha in 2004. Earlier, he served as the Municipal Councillor in Rajkot district of Gujarat from 1981-1993. He has also served as the Vice President of BJP Rajkot district. In 2007, he served as the member of committee on water resources. He has served as the chairman of standing committee of district panchayat and the president of BJP Mehasana district.

Haribhai Patel defeated Congress’ Ramji Thakor, who has been the president of Rashtriya Kshatriya Thakor since 2018. He had previously contested as an independent candidate in the last assembly election from Kheralu, securing third place with 36,000 votes.

Mahesana parliamentary seat is historically important for the BJP and saffron politics. It was the first ever seat secured by the BJP nationally in 1984. Since the debut win, BJP has consistently dominated the seat. Mehsana is considered as the political laboratory of Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown Vadnagar is located in Mahesana district, and is considered as PM Modi’s home district.
