Hashmukhbhai Patel of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Ahmedabad East parliamentary constituency by securing 7,70,459 votes. According to Election Commission data, HS Patel has won the seat with the margin of 4,61,755 votes by defeating Congress’ Himmatsinh Prahladsinh Patel. This is the highest vote margin in the electoral history of this constituency since its formation in 2009.
Hasmukhbhai Patel is the incumbent MP from the Ahmedabad East constituency. In 2019 election, Patel has won the seat with the margin of more than 4 lakh votes by defeating Gitaben Patel of the Congress. He has served as the Member of Gujrat Legislative Assembly for two consecutive terms, in 2012 and 2017 from Amraiwadi constituency. He won both the assembly elections with a healthy margin of more than 50,000 votes. Earlier, he was the Municipal corporator for Baagh-e-firdosh and Indrapuri wards in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The Congress candidate Himmatsinh Prahladsinh Patel is former member of Gujarat Vidhan Sabha from Bapunagar Assembly seat in 2017. Presently, he is serving as the President of Ahmedabad City Congress Committee. Earlier, Patel was the Mayor of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in 2000.
Ahmedabad East constituency has been the fortress of BJP since the formation in 2009. In the prior two general elections, the ruling party candidates won the seat with a lead of more than three lakh votes. In 2009 election, BJP’s Harin Pathak achieved success in the seat bagging 53 percent of total vote share.
