The TMC MP is drawing severe flak for blocking X users when raising questions regarding the incident. The shocking rape and murder of the female trainee doctor in Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 had erupted protests across the country. Doctors across the country are demanding immediate justice for the victim, who were raped and murdered in the seminar hall of the government hospital. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had vowed the death penalty to the accused, Sanjoy Roy, who confessed to committing the crime.

However, TMC MP Mahoa Moitra, known for being one of the vocal critics of the Union government, took to her social media on Monday, four days after the horrific incident, to express her shock. In a post on X, the TMC leader wrote, “The horrific crime at RG Kar has shocked us to the core. No one is to be spared, investigation must be quick & transparent. Thoughts, prayers & solidarity.”
Her late reaction to the incident that sent shockwaves across the country has been met with strong criticism, with many users trolling her for being indifference towards a horrible incident in her state. Adding fire to fuel, the alleged blocking of users by the MP in her microblogging platform for purportedly criticising the state government has infuriated the netizens.
