Patient Dies After Ambulance Driver, Aide Allegedly Sexually Assault Wife And Throw Him Out In UP

An ambulance driver and his aide are accused of sexually assaulting a woman while transporting her ailing husband to their home. The duo allegedly removed the oxygen mask from the husband, leading to his death, and abandoned them by the roadside. They also stole Rs 10,000, along with the woman’s jewellery, according to a report by The Times of India.

The woman had hired the ambulance in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where her husband had been admitted to a hospital. They needed to travel to their home in Siddharth Nagar district. Her brother accompanied them but was confined to the driver’s cabin. The woman stated she admitted her husband to the hospital at Aravali Marg in Indiranagar on August 28, but they were unable to afford further treatment.

“I asked the doctor to discharge my husband, and I was given the ambulance driver’s contact number,” she recounted. They left for home on August 29. During the journey, the driver instructed her to sit in the front seat to avoid police attention.

“I was forced to the front seat, and then the driver and his aide began to assault me. I protested, but they ignored me,” she said.

“My husband sensed my trouble and he and my brother started shouting. However, both kept molesting me, while I kept fighting with them. They later stopped the ambulance on the main road of the Chhawani police station and forcibly removed the oxygen mask from my husband and threw him out. They locked my brother in the front cabin,” she said, per ToI report.

The woman alleged that they stole Rs 10,000, anklets, mangalsutra, Aadhaar card, and hospital reports. Her brother managed to call emergency services. Police recorded their statement and advised them to admit the patient before filing an FIR at Chhawani police station.

The 108 ambulance took her husband to Basti district hospital, but he was referred to Medical College in Gorakhpur due to his deteriorating condition. “As soon as he reached Gorakhpur, my husband died,” the woman alleged.

A complaint has been filed, and the case is under investigation.
