Following the arrest of Anuradha Rani, an employee of SpiceJet, after she slapped a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Jaipur airport on Thursday, the airline issued a statement defending its staff and accusing the CISF officer of sexual misconduct. A video circulated online on Thursday had showed the woman moving toward the security personnel and slapping him amid an altercation between the two during security screening.
SpiceJet, in a statement by a spokesperson, said its staff was subjected to “inappropriate and unacceptable language” by the CISF personnel, adding that the staff was asked to come and meet the security staff after duty hours at his home. Asserting that it stands firmly by its employees, the airline said it is taking immediate legal action in this “serious case of sexual harassment,” against its woman staff and has approached the local police.

However, the CISF has denied the allegations, saying that its officer was only doing his duty.
According to reports, when Anuradha Rani, a food supervisor with SpiceJet was entering the airport along with other staff through the vehicle gate around 4 am, Assistant Sub Inspector Giriraj Prasad blocked them for not having valid permission to use the gate. He demanded the airline staff to undergo screening at the nearby entrance.
As per the CISF, the security officer called for female staff to conduct the screening of the airline crew as there were no female officers present around the screening area, by then there was an argument between him and Rani. The argument continued even after the female staff arrived on the scene and the SpiceJet staff then slapped the security officer.
However, the statement issued by the airline said that the incident happened when it’s female staff with a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, was escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, alleging that she was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF officer.

Following the incident, a case was registered against the SpiceJet employee for slapping the CISF personnel, according to a senior officer. Police are investigating claims made by both sides.
