The official committee of the Nobel Prize 2025 has announced the prizes for Physiology or Medicine on Monday, October 6. Scientists Mary Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi have been awarded the prizes for discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance, said the award-giving body.

“2025 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi “for their discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance,” the official page of the Nobel Prize announced on social media platform X. The decision was taken by a panel at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

The Nobel Prize committee stated that the researchers discoveries have laid the foundation for a new field of research and spurred the development of new treatments such as for cancer and autoimmune diseases.
