Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka is still to decide on retaining his franchise captain KL Rahul for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Goenka and Rahul were a part of a feud in the previous edition of the lucrative tournament, which was seemingly resolved after a dinner, where the duo was pictured sharing a smile and hugging each other. However, the questions around his retention remain rife even though the LSG owner treats him as a part of the family.
“As far as I am concerned, I treat him as part of my family. He knows that too,” Goenka told Cricbuzz on Wednesday in an exclusive interaction.
“He (Rahul) has been there since the inception of Lucknow Super Giants. He’s led us for three years. I have gone on record before and I have no hesitation in saying this again that he wanted to win. KL is an important part of the Super Giants family. As far as retention is concerned, I don’t know. It’s not something I’m going to discuss now. That has to be confidential. There are three months to decide on this.”
“What is your opinion,” Goenka quipped in a quick riposte declining a direct reply.
The Lucknow franchise finished at the seventh spot in the IPL 2024 with 14 points from as many matches after seven wins under Rahul’s captaincy which remains another reason of consideration for Goenka before the retention is announced.
The wicketkeeper-batter, however, had a staggering season for the franchise, scoring 520 runs at an average of 37.14 with four half-centuries.
