All-rounder Arjun Tendulkar was named in the Mumbai Indians (MI) playing XI for their final league game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.
Arjun, who made four appearances in the IPL 2023, replaced star batter Tilak Varma in the playing XI. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya said that the five-time champions will be playing for their pride in the final league encounter after a tumultuous run in the IPL 2024 which will see them finish with a wooden spoon.
“It”s always about playing for the badge, playing for pride – all those words are important in the group. We know where we stand. But ending the season playing good cricket will always be appreciated. It gives us more freedom maybe to go out there and express ourselves,” Pandya said at the toss.
Arjun picked up three wickets in four outings of the IPL 2023. He had a poor average of above 30 and economy rate over 9 in that edition. The youngster also faltered with the bat as he managed to score only 13 runs.
The 24-year-old was roped in by Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 20 lakh ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. He was later brought back by the franchise for INR 30 lakh.
