BRICS can contribute significantly to global welfare, particularly to the Global South, remarked Prime Minister Modi at the BRICS Business Forum Leaders” Dialogue. In his speech, the Prime Minister invited BRICS business leaders to participate in India”s developmental journey.
PM Modi said that COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of resilient and inclusive supply chains, and emphasized the importance of mutual trust and transparency for this.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Johannesburg in the afternoon of August 22, 2023. He was welcomed by Paul Shipokosa Mashatile, Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, at the airport. A ceremonial welcome was also accorded to PM Modi.
PM Modi was also welcomed by the Indian community of South Africa in Johannesburg. In an Instagram post, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to South Africa”s Indian community.
According to reports, PM Modi will meet China President Xi-Jinping, however foreign ministry officials said that the schedule of Prime Minister’s BRICS schedule is being finalised.

BRICS is a grouping of the economies of the global south consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa formed by the 2010 addition of South Africa to the predecessor BRIC.
