The BCCI Apex Council will meet on Wednesday with the appointment of a new secretary not on the agenda after Jay Shah was named as the ICC chairman.
Shah is still to step down from his role as he will further continue to represent the board during the BCCI Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru, five days later. He will vacant the position before taking office as the ICC chairman on December 1.
The Indian Cricket Board’s operations will be discussed during the Apex Council meeting with eight items listed in the agenda. Topping the list will be the settlement of payment with Byju’s, the former title sponsor of the BCCI, after the edtech ended its sponsorship last year.
The Bengaluru-based firm had signed an initial three-year deal in March 2019, which was extended for another year with a reported sum of $55 million. It is understood that the payments were made until September 2022 but unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023 remain.
The inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) in the suburbs of Bengaluru will be another significant agenda of discussion. It currently operates from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where it has been based for over two decades, with the new facility set to give opportunities to athletes beyond cricket to train.
There will be a discussion seeking approval for commencing renovation work on the exteriors of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai while the progress on the North East development projects will be addressed.
