Bishan Singh Bedi, the former Indian spin maestro, died on Monday at the age of 77. The Amritsar-born spinner represented the nation in 67 Test matches and 10 One-Day Internationals. He took 266 wickets in test matches at an average of 28.71. Famous personalities from around the globe paid tribute to the cricketing legend.

Former Indian cricketer Gautham Gambhir wrote on X that Bishan Singh Bedi”s contribution to cricket will be remembered forever. “Extremely saddened by the passing of Bishan Singh Bedi ji. His immense contribution to cricket will forever be remembered. May god give strength to his family and loved ones!” Gambhir wrote. Former pacer Irfan Pathan also paid tributes with a post that read, “Bishan Singh bedi One of our best is no more. It’s a loss to our cricketing fraternity. My deep condolences to his family.”

The Indian cricket commentator, Harsha Bhogle, called Bishan Singh Bedi a genuine cricketing great. “A genuine cricketing great, a proud Indian and a pure cricket lover moves on. The death of Bishan Bedi makes it a very sad day for India and for cricket. He was always encouraging and I will miss his easy laughter,” Harsha Bhogle wrote on X. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also expressed his grief over Bishan Singh Bedi’s demise. “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of legendary India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi. His contributions to Indian cricket and his artistry on the field will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire cricketing community. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Anurag Thakur on his X handle.

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik called Bishan Singh Bedi a true ambassador of the sport. “Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Bishan Singh Bedi Sir, a legend and a true ambassador of the sport. His contribution to Indian cricket will be remembered forever,” Dinesh Karthik wrote on the microblogging platform. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that Indian cricket has lost an icon today. Jay Shah also added, “Bedi Sir defined an era of cricket and he left an indelible mark on the game with his artistry as a spin bowler and his impeccable character.” BCCI also shared a condolence message to Bishan Singh Bedi”s family.
