Dwayne Bravo, 41, is set to retire from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at the end of the 2024 season.
Bravo, the highest wicket-taker, in the tournament announced his decision before Trinbago Knight Riders’ (TKR’s) opening match against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Basseterre.
“It’s been a great journey. This season will be my last one and I’m looking forward to a playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl,” Bravo posted on Instagram. “TKR is the place where everything started for me and will end with my team.”
The veteran all-rounder, who has already won five CPL titles, has scalped 128 wickets in 103 matches at an average of 22.40 and an economy rate of 8.69.
He retired from the national team after the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and called time from his Indian Premier League (IPL) stint in 2023. He has taken up the duty of a bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since then.
“We are so grateful that Dwayne has been a part of our tournament since its inception in 2013 and his contribution to making the league what it is today is immeasurable,” Pete Russell, CEO of the CPL, said in a statement.
He had led the TKR to CPL titles in 2017 and 2018 before guiding the Patriots to their maiden title in 2021. The West Indies great will continue to feature in T20 leagues around the world as he is contracted with MI Emirates in the ILT20 and Texas Chargers in the MLC in the USA.
