West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, was announced as the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Incidentally, Bravo was also a part of the Knight Riders franchise in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), before announcing his retirement from the T20 franchise league earlier this season.
His association with the franchise extends to the IPL, where he is set to replace Gautam Gambhir in the role, after serving Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as their bowling coach in 2023.
Reacting to Bravo’s decision to join the Kolkata franchise, CSK said on X: “From Champion on the field to legend in our hearts!💛 #WhistlePodu for a Bravo of a career! 👏🥳”.
The CSK fans had a mixed reaction after the former all-rounder joined KKR after serving their franchise as a player and coach for a long time.
“Tushar & Pathirana Will Miss him,” one of the fans said.
“You could have kept him forever 💔 IPL + SA20 + MLC If Forgetting your players is an art CSK is Picasso of it. 😡,” another fan commented criticizing the franchise.
“CSK emotion – The Champion Dwayne Bravo was appointed as KKR Mentor for IPL 2025! Seriously? Yellove will miss you champion, especially the young pace unit of CSK who performed excellently under him. Still can’t fathom how can CSK let go of him in the first place?🤔,” another fan said.
Bravo will have his task cut out at KKR as the franchise are set to defend their IPL title in the 2025 season. On his joining, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said: “DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players”.
