The American wrestler and former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion Bray Watt died of heart attack on Thursday at the age of 36.

Windham Lawrence Rotunda, best known under his ring name Bray Watt was an American professional wrestler. He was best known for his tenure in WWE, where he performed under the ring name Bray Wyatt.

The news of Mr Wyatt”s sad demise was announced by Paul Michael Levesque, better known by the ring name Triple H, on Friday. Triple H is a 14-Time World Champion and the current Chief Content Officer of WWE.

“Our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda – also known as Bray Wyatt – unexpectedly passed earlier today”, wrote Triple H on X (formerly Twitter).

“WWE is saddened to learn that Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, at age 36”, said WWE extending its condolences to Rotunda’s family, friends and fans on X.

According to ESPN, Mr Wyatt had been inactive over the past several months in WWE as dealing with undisclosed health problems. He had been with WWE since 2009, save for just over a year in 2021 and 2022 when he was surprisingly released. He returned to WWE last September with much fanfare and a mysterious storyline, including cryptic vignettes, which helped boost television ratings.

“I am heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing. Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family”, wrote Dwayne Johnson on X. Dwayne Douglas Johnson, also known by his ring name the Rock, is an American actor, film producer, and retired professional wrestler.

“Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with @wwe universe. Very unique, cool and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling. Still processing losing the goat, Terry Funk yesterday and now Bray today. My love, light, strength & mana to the Rotunda family and Funk family during this tough, heartbreaking time. As always, ‘thank you for the house’”, Mr Johnson added.

Mr Wyatt came from a family of wrestlers including his grandfather Blackjack Mulligan, his father Mike Rotunda and his younger brother Bo Dallas. He was a state wrestling champion in high school and left his graduation course incomplete to become a professional wrestler. He made his debut as a professional wrestler in 2009.

He fought under several names including Husky Harris, Alex Rotunda, Duke Rotundo and The Fiend. Mr Wyatt won world champion in WWE thrice.
