'Grandmother Was Watching Over': Abhinav Mukund Pays Tribute After Broadcasting Milestone

Abhinav Mukund achieved a significant broadcasting milestone during the Chennai Test against Bangladesh, which concluded on Saturday.

The out-of-favor India batter was a part of the English broadcasting panel for the official live-streaming partners for the first Test, making his maiden appearance as an anchor. He dedicated the special moment to his grandmother, who passed away 24 hours before he went live, for looking over him during his chaotic appearance.

“Less than 24 hours after my grandmother passed away, I had to go live as an anchor for the very 1st time. From cricketer to expert and now hosting the show I was nervous. But thankfully I felt at home in Chepauk and managed to sail through these 4 days and watched the local boy @rashwin99 scale newer heights and equal the late Shane Warne’s tally of 5wkt hauls,” wrote Mukund on Instagram.

“Another box ticked in my broadcasting career hosting the English show on @officialjiocinema and I am extremely thankful to @parthiv9 and @tamimofficial for giving me such lovely company throughout the test match. @sabakarim_india was ‘natty’ as well!”

“Enjoyed my first test match, I am sure my grandmother was watching over me to ensure I was calm amidst the chaos! Off to Kanpur now,” Mukund added.

Mukund made his last appearance in professional cricket for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy in 2020. He notched up the scores of 86, 206, and 100 in the last three innings.

The hosts clinched the first Test by 280 runs with veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin starring with the bat and ball.

The second Test is slated to get underway on Friday.
