Happy Birthday Kohli: The Star India Batter Turns 35

“514 intl. matches & counting… 26,209 intl. runs & counting…” What else is there more than this BCCI definition, to attribute the finest of India’s international cricketer, Virat Kohli, on his 35th birthday. It’s Kohli day and the cricket fanatics across the world are wishing happy birthday to their best among modern batters. The batting maestro is a consistent name for the gallery and millions of audiences from 2008, when Kohli led India to a U19 World Cup victory and made his international debut in the same year.

His extraordinary run-scoring ability and constant record breaking statistics along with the outstanding standard of holding on to the matches single-handedly, held his name on headlines. The achievements he earned were huge and rarely seen before in the world cricket arena. Being widely regarded as one of the greatest batsman in the history of the sport, he is also a major figure in domestic cricket and is associated primarily with the team Royal Challengers Bangalore.

On Kohli’s special day, the national governing body of cricket in India, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), took their official social media handle to remember his talented performance in the 2011 ICC World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, in both the team earned titles. “Here”s wishing Virat Kohli – Former #TeamIndia Captain & one of the greatest modern-day batters – a very Happy Birthday!”, wrote BCCI. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle and wished Kohli, “Ek taraf @imVkohli to dusri taraf duniya ke saare batsmen, Virat sabse aage. #HappyBirthdayViratKohli”.

West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, wishing Kohli birthday described him as “the legendary Indian batsman”. “Virat Kohli is there in Kolkata on his birthday to play a historic match for our country!! A very happy birthday to Virat!! Wish him and his family all happiness and success!!”, she added on X.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) meanwhile branded Kohli as the “incredible batter, elite chaser, born leader”. “Virat Kohli is fulfilling his destiny and will be remembered as one of the all-time greats in the history books”, they have added on social media presenting some valuable moments from Virat’s cricket life.

“Virat’s a legend of the game and especially this format [ODI]. All formats of the game, but particularly this one. The performances; the way he’s been able to finish games, the standard of his performances over the years has probably set a benchmark for his generation of cricketers,” said India’s head coach Rahul Dravid on ICC’s incredible video wish for Virat Kohli. Kohli will be taking South Africa at the Eden Gardens cricket stadium in Kolkata today in the 2023 World Cup and is expected to put up a tough fight and maintain India’s winning streak, as the pitch is all set for a clash between the table toppers.
