ICC World Cup: Clinical Proteas Thrash Current Champions England By 229 Runs

It was a spectacular match-winning as South Africa never have hoped for a more thrashing bet to the current ICC Men’s World Cup champions England. The target is much more than anticipated, around 400 runs. The beat was just majestic – South Africa won by 299 runs and finished England in 22 overs.

England managed to secure only 170 runs in 22 overs and lost to the green army which presented a power-packed performance, where Rassie Van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks set a terrible start and strong foundation. Even though the middle was bit slow, the Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen partnership scrapped the plan and hit the race to an unexpected level. Klassen is also the player of the match and said it was one of his best knock.

England won the toss and choose to bowl. Klassen scored 109 and swept the dust energizing the Markram led team to an enormous victory over the champions. Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee displayed the magical spell blistered with their bowling. Coetzee and Rabada clinched England’s wickets and the west team collapsed under pressure.

Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen provided South Africa their early wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root and paved way to tame England effortlessly in African control. The match was held at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Maharashtra’s Mumbai. The last time a World Cup match was played at the Wankhede was in 2011, and India lifted the trophy by defeating Sri Lanka.

South Africa is placed at the third position in the point table with a win of three out of total four matches played. They have six points and follows New Zealand and India, both standing proud with 8 points. England with only one win in their basket is at the 9th position with two points.

England’s love to chase is famous but destiny did not favoured them today. As ICC reports, Jos Butler expressed the team’s disappointment as they were severely beaten down and admitted that most of their plans went vein from the first innings itself. India will take on New Zealand on Sunday, October 22 at 2pm.
