Former England captain Joe Root will be a prized wicket for India in the ongoing five-Test series. His composure and variety of shots make him one of the finest Test batters of the current generation. He is also one of the most successful overseas batters in the longest format in Indian conditions.
Root struggled to get amongst runs in the first Test. He was dismissed for a well-composed 29 runs off 60 deliveries in the first innings while getting cleaned up for 2 in the second by Jasprit Bumrah. However, there is no or little doubt that the veteran Test batter remains one of the crucial members of the English side.
The 33-year-old is likely to be tested on a rank turner during the second Test in Vizag, starting from February 2. However, Root is making sure that he checks all his boxes before taking on the challenge. He was seen switching from his traditional right-handed batting to a left-hander during a net session at the picturesque Vizag.
