Young Indian batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to rule the top order for the hosts in the ongoing five-Test series against England. He is quickly rising through the ranks and has cemented his place in the Indian Test squad with three centuries, as many half-centuries, and the highest score of an unbeaten 214 in the longest format. He has hit two double centuries in the ongoing series.
On Day 1 of the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, Yashasvi distanced himself as the leading run-scorer, crossing the 700-run mark. In the process, he broke the former India captain Virat Kohli”s record for most runs in a Test series – 655 – in the 2016/17 home series.
Incidentally, Jaiswal also became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to accumulate more than 700 runs in a single Test series. The legendary Indian batter had done it twice during his career against the West Indies (774 in 1971/72) and 732 (1978-79).

The young Indian batter has the chance of surpassing Gavaskar to accumulate the most runs in a Test series. After being dismissed on 59, he possibly has one more innings to bat.
Earlier, Jaiswal rose 14 spots to 15th overall and a new career-high rating on the updated rankings for Test batters. There are now four Indian players inside the top 15 Test batters, with Jaiswal joining Kohli (seventh), Rohit Sharma (12th) and Rishabh Pant (14th) near the head of proceedings as Kiwi veteran Kane Williamson continues to hold a commanding lead.
