Lovlina Borgohain One-Win Away From Second Consecutive Olympics Medal After Win Over Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad

Ace Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain outpunched Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad at 5:0 in the Round of 16 Women’s Middleweight event at Paris 2024 on Wednesday.

The victory ensured that Borgohain remained within touching distance of an assured medal as a win in the next round would earn her a second consecutive podium finish at the Olympics.

The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist was on top of her game from the onset as she used her height to her advantage and landed crucial blows on her opponents. Her opponent looked to get off the blocks early but she failed to land her punches to perfection with the Indian boxer collecting vital points with a couple of jabs and hooks.

Borgohain continued to dominate in the second round as she landed a couple of punches squarely on her opponent. However, the Norwegian tried to put in some late efforts in the third round to make a comeback, but it did not prove to be effective.

The Indian pugilist will take on Li Qian of China in the Quarter-Final 1 on Sunday at 15:02 IST.
